Una chat di gruppo di ore e ore e l'indecisione più totale sul dove ritrovarci a mangiare, alcuni tentativi di prenotazione andati a vuoto, chi propone una pizza tutti insieme a casa, chi propone il libanese, e infine chi avanza, davvero in extremis, la proposta che ci ha risollevato la serata: ed è così che siamo finiti all'Osteria del Pavone.

Nessuna piuma di pennuto, per fortuna, ad arredare il locale (prende il nome dalla viuzza del centro storico dove si trova, a due passi da Corso Vittorio Emanuele), bensì grandi targhe pubblicitarie alle pareti, lampade a bulbo che pendono dal soffitto, insegne e barattoli di latta su vecchi mobili industriali e tavoli semplici, in legno azzurro, senza tovaglia.
Un'indiscutibile atmosfera vintage che subito ti fa sentire a tuo agio, ti rilassa e ti permette di goderti la cena sentendoti un po' come se fossi a casa tua.
Nelle due piccole sale che si nascondono dietro al cancello in ferro battuto e alla porta a vetri d'ingresso, infatti, abbiamo chiacchierato per ore. Abbiamo riso e scherzato senza accorgerci del tempo che passava. E, da non sottovalutare, abbiamo mangiato benissimo.
Piatti della tradizione romana, sì, ma rivisitati (altrimenti detto: piatti belli da vedere, leggeri, che non ti si piazzano sullo stomaco fino al mercoledì della settimana successiva).
Ottimi, giusto per fare un esempio, l'antipasto della casa, il tortino di carciofi con scaglie di pecorino e il crumble di pollo (mai scelta fu più azzeccata, anzi, ne avrei mangiate altre due porzioni!).
Io fossi in voi non avrei dubbi. Una tranquilla serata romana, magari quando il tempo è più clemente e permette anche una passeggiata digestiva tra Piazza Navona e Campo de' Fiori, non può che iniziare da via del Pavone.
Mi sa che in primavera mi ci ritroverete spesso (come? abito a Firenze? poco male, con 1h e 20 di treno direi che la distanza non è un grna problema...).

Saturday night dinner with my Roman friends: the perfect excuse to find out a new address in the Capital.
An endless group chat and the total indecision on where to meet for dinner, some attempts of reservation with no success, someone suggests a pizza all together at home, someone suggests the libanese restaurant, and, finally, someone makes the proposal that made our night: and that is how we ended up to eat at Osteria del Pavone.
No bird feathers, thanks God, to furnish the location (it owes its name to the narrow street in the historic center where you find it, a few steps from Corso Vittorio Emanuele), but huge advertising plaque on the walls, bulb lamps hanging from the ceiling, tin-plated signs and barrels on old industrial furniture and simple wooden blue table, with no tablecloth.
An undenyable vintage atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at your ease, helps to relax and lets enjoy the dinner as if you were at home.
In the two small rooms that hide behind the wrought-iron fence and the glass door at the entrance, indeed, we chattered and laughed for hours, with no cognition of the time passing. And, not least, we ate amazingly.
Plates from the Roman tradition, yes, but revisited (that is: plates which are good to see, light and that don't stay on your stomach until mid of the next week).
Just to mention some delicious alternatives: the "house starter plate", the "artichokes pie with pecorino flakes" and the "chicken crumble" (no choice has ever been more appropriate, I would have eaten other two servings!)
If I were you I wouldn't have any more doubts. A quiet night in Rome, maybe when the weather is more clement and allows a digestive stroll in Piazza Navona and Campo de' Fiori, should definitely start in via del Pavone.
I guess that during springtime you will often find me there again (what? I live in Florence? who cares, with just 1h20m by train I would say distance is not such a big deal...)
